Our position is that mathematical methods are universal and can be applied to any clearly-formulated problem. There is no "special mathematics" that applies only to biology and nowhere else. But the possibility of using mathematical methods is not always visible since each task still has its subject specificity. To solve problems efficiently, it is necessary to impose a minimal amount of structure to take into account these features. Developing the ideas of general systems theory, we distinguish three sectoral areas.

Natural systems

All complex systems are made up of living structural units. This category includes all tasks related to biotechnology and medicine, as well as socio-ecological systems based on competing interactions between people and other living organisms.

Artificial systems

This includes all artificial systems: transport and logistics, industry, supply chains, telecommunications. These systems, unlike natural ones, often function according to specially-set rules, although this does not make their dynamics simpler.

Symbolical systems

There are collected projects dedicated to solving problems formulated in abstract terms such as "trust", "fairness", "benefit". Financial technologies are a typical example of such systems.

We emphasise that this division is not exclusive, and many projects from our range of interests can equally be attributed to several of these groups at once. The primary purpose of such a classification is to facilitate the formalisation of the problem statement to approach it using the most appropriate mathematical apparatus.
